The Apprenticeship Program at GROB is the first step toward a rewarding career in the skilled trades. Designed to build our future workforce from within, the program combines hands-on training, education, and on-the-job experience to prepare apprentices for careers as mechanical or electrical technicians at GROB.

No manufacturing experience? None needed! Throughout the program, apprentices learn from dedicated training staff in our apprenticeship labs and gain practical experience working alongside skilled technicians on the plant floor.

Our Apprenticeship Program offers…

  • Spend the rest of the year in the Apprenticeship Training Area building technical skills in your chosen pathway.
  • Work on hands-on projects and classroom materials led by in-house Training Instructors.
  • Begin your associate degree coursework at Rhodes State College.
Year 2
  • Rotate through departments in your pathway across GROB, working and learning alongside experienced employees.
  • Learn the skills needed to be successful in each department.
  • Discover which areas interest you most to help determine your ideal placement.
  • Continue your college coursework at Rhodes State College.
Year 3 & 4
  • You will be placed into our regular workforce and receive specialized training for that role. Placement timing varies based on college schedules and company needs.
  • Complete your associate degree through Rhodes State College.
  • Successful completion of 4,000 hours of on-the-job training and 720 hours of Related Instruction at Rhodes leads to a journeyperson certification. This is issued by the Ohio State Apprenticeship Council in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Labor and certifies you as an Industrial Machinist System Technician.

Career Pathways

GROB offers two different apprenticeship pathways – mechanical and electrical. All apprentices earn an Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology degree from Rhodes, but their in-house training at GROB is what sets the two pathways apart.

Mechanical Pathway

Skills learned: manual machining, assembly, layout, hand tool knowledge, work safety, print reading

Potential department placements: machine shop, sub assembly, final assembly, universal, fluids, fabrication
